In T&T: Economy best since downturn

Even with decline in natural gas production, T&T economy returning to pre-2008 conditions according to Minister Tewarie.

The momentum of the local economy is currently at its best since the economic downturn in 2008, according to Minister of Planning and the Economy, Dr Bhoe Tewarie as he spoke to reporters at the International Waterfront yesterday.

“We have had gains but what we are going to see in 2012 is momentum buildup,” Tewarie said.

He said despite Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine’s announcement of a reduction in the number of barrels of oil produced, the economy was on an upturn as there has been a lot of investments and interest in Trinidad and Tobago.

“Most of the oil production came from leased operator ships by small private sector investors.

He noted there would be a number of investments in the construction sector in the coming weeks.
